Jesus the Early Years (Luke 2v39-52)

In Luke chapter 2, the writer seems to go out of his way to paint Jesus and his family as faithful/practicing Jews in the first century.  Mary & Joseph observe the rituals of having a first born son, they are said to keep the requirements, they go back & forth to Jerusalem for the Passover festival.

On this last occasion, Jesus gets separated from his family as they leave Jerusalem to return to Nazareth.  This would not be all that hard as whole groups of families and friends would travel up to Jerusalem & then home again.  When they find Jesus, 3 days later…can you imagine the panic, he is in the Temple courts with the religious leaders talking Torah with them.  The scriptures say that they are amazed by his questions and answers. This is a very Hebraic way of saying that they are impressed with his handling of & thinking about the scriptures.

For today’s insight, I want you to look at a couple of links.  We’ll talk about this more in depth at Utopia tomorrow night @ 8 and Wednesday night.
